On Friday night, 10th May ’19, Salvo Brass were at Bedford Congress Hall for a concert aided by the Bedford Congress Hall Songsters and Just Brass, a brass group made up of pupils from a local school where members of the Bedford corps go to teach them on a voluntary basis. This is a Corp initiative to also encourage the youngsters to attend. The evening was ably directed by our Associate conductor Gary Rose.
It was an excellent night with strong contributions from the previously mentioned sections. Songs from the songsters that ranged from classic S.A to Gospel and a joint piece between the Just Brass and Salvo Brass called ‘Classic’s in Brass’, where the youth band took the lead accompanied by Salvo. It should be mentioned that there was only time for a single run through before the concert, the youth band had really done their homework and there were smiles all round at the end and much applause!!
Unfortunately this was Gary’s last ‘gig’ with the band, so on a personal note we would like to say a massive public ‘Thank-you’ for all his hard work, musicality, direction, encouragement and humour during his time with Salvo. You will be missed.
Also we would like to say a big thank-you to those from the Corp family who looked after us so well before and after the concert. It’s never taken for granted but hugely appreciated by us all. Many thanks.
